Terms and Conditions

Please ensure to read these terms and conditions before you submit your form

Eligibility

  • All students must study under a teacher for at least one year. 

  • All students must be non-professional.

  • All students must be registered by their instructor, parent, or guardian.

  • The adjudication division evaluates the repertoires performed by students to assess their comprehensive understanding of the literature.

  • Students must be no older than 17 on August 31. The minimum age may vary depending on the Division. See each Division page for the minimum age.

Piece Requirements

  • Each performer will at least play one repertoire from memory; we recommend that they play in contrasting styles when enrolling in two selections. The individual repertoire must be played with live accompaniment for the string performance. 

  • Concerto movements may not be played as solos but must be accompanied by either a backing track or a live accompaniment. (The backing track must be sent to the Music Matters one week before the event in MP3 format). 

  • Each repertoire is limited to 5 minutes, and the table monitor may stop your performance due to the time limitation. All selections must be played from memory.

  • There is no need to repeat, But D.C. al Fine needs to be observed. 

  • A legal copy of the music is required to show the adjudicator. 

Regarding Fee & Schedule

  • All fees are not not-refundable

  • The performance schedule for all performers will be posted online one week before the event. The parent, along with the teacher, should receive an email when the schedule is posted. 

  • If there is any scheduling conflict. We will do our best to accommodate your request, although we cannot make any guarantees. If you know you have a conflict on the adjudication day, please don’t register.

  • We cannot accept schedule changes once published since the adjudicator has been informed of their adjudication schedule. 

Adjudication

 

  • Performers are encouraged to wear appropriate attire for their performances.

  • Each performer must be signed in when they arrive. 

  • The original copy of the score is required to show while you signed in.

  • Each performer will receive a brief oral comment and an evaluation sheet after their performance. 

  • Parents, teachers, and family members are welcome to observe the adjudication process silently. 

  • Talking with the adjudicator, taking pictures, or recording is prohibited. 

  • All Adjudicator evaluations are final and are not open to discussion. 

  • There is no additional charge for participating in an honor performance concert at a later time. However, you must agree to perform and sign up for an honor performance concert after your adjudication with the Merit and Distinction mark before you leave. 

  • It is important to note that the capacity for student performers at the honor performance concert is finite. In the event that all available slots are reserved, priority will be given to students who have achieved the Distinction level of recognition from the event.
