Alison Star
Concert Pianist
Dr. Alison Star is an internationally recognized classical pianist, accompanist, adjudicator, and
musicologist.
Dr. Alison Star early training includes studies at the University of British Columbia (Vancouver) with
Mary Tickner and Jane Coop. She was awarded scholarships for Graduate Studies at
the University of Southern California (Los Angeles), where she worked with Brooks
Smith and Jean Barr. Dr. Star was then awarded a full scholarship to continue her graduate
studies at the Dominican University of San Rafael (San Francisco Bay area) with Dr. Ted
Blair. She has enjoyed an active performance career as a soloist, collaborative pianist, and with
the symphony, particularly with the Marin Symphony (Bay area), under the direction of
Hugo Rinaldi, accompanying the UVic Chamber Singers, and playing at the International
Beethoven Symposium hosted by the University of Victoria (Victoria, B.C.).
Dr. Alison Star loves to combine her passion for teaching, performing, and research, notably in her
presentation of many lecture recitals across the U.S.A. and Canada. She has taught at
the Dominican University of San Rafael, the School of Music, Brandon University, and
more recently at the University of Victoria, presenting courses in Classical Music History,
Theory and Aural Skills, Piano, Chamber Music, and Performance Practice.
